Fungi terminology

• Macrofungi, AKA higher fungi — Any fungus that's big enough to be seen with the naked eye. This includes fungi that have visible mushrooms, and those that have visible above-ground (epigeous) fruiting bodies (sporocarps). Lichens are sometimes included, depending on definition.
  • TODO: Things that count as macrofungi, but don't count as mushrooms:
    • What's visible is only the fruiting bodies / sporocarps, but they're rarely described as mushrooms.
      • Rust, where they're often visible on infected leaves, petioles, tender shoots, stem, fruits, etc.
      • Xylaria
      • TODO: Epigeous sporocarps that don't have an agaricoid morphology. [TODO: look more here]   (so, cleistothecium, perithecium, gymnothecium, perithecium?)
    • Conidiomata, which reproduce asexually, which means they aren't sporocarps (which always reproduce sexually).
    • Smut teliospores
    • Sclerotium
  • Things that count as macrofungi, that are only found underground, and aren't described as mushrooms.
    • Mycelial cords
    • False truffles, AKA hypogeous ('underground') basidiocarps ('sporocarps of Basidiomycota'').
