- evidence for periodic supervolcanoes
- Huckleberry Ridge Tuff, Lava
Creek Tuff, and Mesa Falls Tuff
- revised ages: Huckleberry ridge Tuff =
2.059 ± 0.004 million years, Mesa Falls Tuff = 1.285 ± 0.004 million years, and Lava Creek Tuff
= 0.639 ± 0.002 million years. That makes the intervals:
- 774,000 years (± 4000 years)
- 646,000 years (± 4000 years)
- 639,000 years ago (± 2000 years, and note that this is the interval to present day... we don't know
when this one will go off)
- an average of the first two intervals is 710,000 years. So, if you were to make a
random guess, you might say that we have, on average, 71,000 years until it goes off?
