Linguistic prescriptivism is too often used to enforce education/class/ethnic divides. Yes, clear writing is important, but some people focus on pedantic details and ignore overall clarity. And sometimes pedanticness is used only to enforce linguistic prestige; it becomes just another tool of the kyriarchy.
