By default, Solaris has ~root's $HOME as /, the literal filesystem root.

Most other Un*x variants make its $HOME be /root/.

Because of the way Solaris does it by default, you end up having a lot of dot-files litering the filesystem root.

I consider it a best-practice to move ~root's $HOME to something else — namely, /root/.
