One problem I've seen on Wikipedia, possibly one I might be able to help out with, is that many maps (eg. from BBC, or other news networks) are copyrighted, and can't be used on Wikipedia. Sometimes maps are very very useful though. So, people have to create new graphics. It's kind of stupid, but ahh well.

- Patents are published into the public domain as part of the terms of granting the patent to the inventor. As such, they are not subject to copyright restrictions.. Ahh, of course there's a template for it already.
