Disenchanting

What happens to an item when it is disenchanted? Does it lose some or all of its magical atributes?
Reply Posted by ArcturusSage on 2004-08-31 22:54:40
when you disenchant an item, the item is destroyed, and you get items in return.

If you close the loot box for the disenchanted item, the item is destroyed, and so are the enchanting mats.  There, currently, is no way to cancel a disenchant.

You can cancel the disenchant action (moving bar) but once the bar finishes and the loot box comes up, you either take it or you don't get anything.

How do you disenchant an item?  I'm considering picking up Enchanting, but I'd like to know this detail before doing so.

Can you enchant item that already have stats?
Reply Posted by Rambar on 2004-09-26 02:58:47
Generally yes, but it will usually replace what ws there before.  You'll get a confirmation pop-up if you're trying to replace an old enchant.

If you want to skill up quickly you could enchant once piece over and over.
Enchanting looks really, REALLY lame.

I could be wrong here, but man, this Profession just looks horrible.  I can't possibly imagine how it could be useful- If I haven't found or bought better items just by playing, I'd pretty much consider myself an abject failure.  I mean, maybe if they stacked, or maybe if they didn't overwrite existing item attributes, then it'd be worth something.  But the highest level Enchant gives you +3 Agility?  It sounds like a sick joke.  I can't even begin to imagine who'd take this Profession.  But then, it looks to my untrained eye like there's really only two professions worth taking: Alchemy and Engineering.

Are you retarded? Enchantments are modifiers added to your items, only 1 enchantment at a time can be on an item though.
Well, ONE of us is retarded.

No, I'm not retarded, but I strongly suspect that you're illiterate, considering that you didn't manage to comprehend a single thing I wrote in my post.  It would be nice if rude, ignorant people such as yourself would actually read and comprehend posts before just mindlessly flaming people.  Grow up and mature a little, then come back and maybe we can have a rational discussion.
Enchanting is usefull.
Reply Posted by Draajen on 2004-10-06 10:44:37
If you are a caster type and don't care about putting on an armor patch because you don't plan on tanking then the extra stats are great.  And to just to make it clear because one of the posts seemed vague.  Enchanting doesn't touch the natural stats on the item it will just remove other enchants or armor patchs.

Warstrike doesn't know what he's talking about.
First off, they do not overwrite an items stat bonuses.
Items can have only 1 "upgrade" on an item at a time, these WILL be overwritten.
Secondly, enchanting is very cool in that it does not require a respective gathering profession to feed the crafter.

Wow, how about something useful on a forum?

I have heard, and can well imagine, how difficult it can be to make money if Enchanting.  What would be a good tradeskill to pair with enchanting? and should it be used merely for selling?  There doesn't appear to be a useful match to go with enchanting.  Thanks

warstrike says:
"yet cretins like you took it like you take everything: an excuse to be abusive little pricks to total strangers. "

umm... last we all check, the only abusive person on this thread was warstrike himself.  if you have the balls to post a comment, be prepared to get questioned on it. your vulgarity shows your immaturity and how unlearnt you are to interacting w/ others... good luck trying to find a group when doing any instances.

i'm sure you must be peeved as you're reading this post,... as in i can already imagine your reply...

warstrike will say something like "F!this, F! that, U freakin F!'er.." LOL, dude, just dont reply because you are now the biggest jack on this thread.

Tailoring works well with enchanting
Reply Posted by renyon on 2004-10-19 20:38:03
Spooticus:

Tailoring seems to be a good one to match with enchanting.  There is no gathering skill for tailoring, since the materials are gathered from mob drops.  You can also disenchant the cloth items you make.

You'll still need to find various rare quality items (blue) for the higher level mats, like large glowing shard.  (That's where thottbot comes in.)
Tailoring and Enchanting
Reply Posted by wehowk1 on 2004-10-22 23:41:15
I agree, tailoring is probably the best skill to match with enchanting. As you can disenchant what you make. But any skill which provides benifits to others is good too, as you will need a lot of magic items, and it is nice if you can ask others to give them to you.

If/when the open BETA comes out, I am planning a Skinner/Leatherworker and my friend is planning a Tailor/Enchanter (both with Fishing and Cooking). I am hoping that betwen those 4 skills we will be able to get the enchanting up because it looks like an interesting skill.

It is a large money sink though, as you are disenchanting magical items which you could otherwise sell for cash.

Enchanting is quite good at making money
Reply Posted by MasterIves on 2004-10-25 20:08:18
From what I've seen enchanting can make money quite easily.  A friend of mine will chill at the Bank, throw up a say for 1g specials, and get around 4-7 tells in about 5 seconds!  The last time I saw him, he made 16g in about 10 mins.  I think that's a pretty good return on the time spent.  As long as you can easily gather the dusts and shards, you can bank.  He's only a lvl 22 Hunter, and has some pretty nice equipment.  It actually is pretty amazing how fast people respond to his "advertisements".

Just to clarify for Warstrike: Items with natural stats can be enchanted without losing those stats. So if an item drops that has +6 stam +2 spirit +3 int, then you can enchant it without losing those stats, but only 1 enchantment (or armor kit) can be on an item at a time. Generally, bracers/belts/hemls are enchanted (because you cant put armor kits on it) and gloves/chests/pants/boots are equipped with armor kits (because it gives you a substantial bonus to your AF which is better than 1 stat upgrade for melee classes). However it is very situational and casters generally opt for all enchantments. Also, please dont be an asshole warstrike, it was very uncalled for.

The facts about enchanting
Reply Posted by Vyrus on 2004-11-09 14:58:39
Every item in the game has natural stats and an extra "slot" for player enhancements.  The player enhancements never --->ever<--- change the natural stats of the item.  However, since there is only one player enhancement slot on each item, any new enhancement will be preceeded by a warning that you are about to overwrite the existing player enhancement.

Player enhancements include, but are not limited to:  Leather kits (for chest, feet, legs, and gloves only), enchantments for anything that can be enchanted.

I hope this clears up the confusion.

the reason most weapons have the shine effect, is due to a sharpening stone, just ask a blacksmith, they can make them.

Oh, and yes, enchanting is a very useful skill, for what should be clearly obvious reasons.
Quick question...
Reply Posted by BrilliantAzure on 2004-11-11 03:07:25
I have a quick question... well, two... about Enchanting.

1) Would it be prudent to have herbalism while being an enchanter? I'm a tailor myself, but I noticed a few of the recipes call for herbs (maybe I'm wrong, but I could have sworn I saw at least one silverleaf up there).

2) If an item says "increases spirit by 3 for 60 seconds" is that a one time use, then? Sorry if that's a dumb question, but I'm a newbie.
Reply Posted by Banzaibart on 2004-11-11 03:39:21
No question is dump, so I try to answer it.
In the past enchanting was splitted in permanent and temporarily enchantments and there was a gathering skills for it: herbalism.

This was changed, now you can only disenchant to get the stuff you need or buy it at the vendor (only the small ones).
The stuff you have found lately was some old records from previous betas, nevermind. You dont need herbs anymore but shadowgems in a few cases. :)

Can you Enchant Daggers ?
What rhymes with Enchant?
Reply Posted by Mahlus333 on 2004-11-11 15:44:21
Personally i took Tailoring along with enchanting, Being a warlock it has many benefits, first off, i can make my own gear, and enchant it, and if i need to, i can make more gear to blow up for enchanting supplies.

It works really well to have skills that perpetuate eachother, so that's what i use.

On a side note, you'll probably find yourself out of money alot doing these skills, but hey, you can find most of your raw materials to create items and just dump em in AH.

As for the last question, yes, you can enchant daggers, you can pretty much enchant any piece of equipment, save for rings, amulets, and trinkets.

Someone mentioned something about enchantments adding shine to your weapon...I wish I knew what the other ones did, but with Beastslayer, your weapon now glows red (particle effect, sparklie, whatever you want to call it). If anyone knows any other enchantment that adds a particle effect to your weapon, please share it with us and I guarentee you'll see an increase in sales if that's advertised.

How to disenchant
Reply Posted by Phych <All Ur Base R BelongToUs> on 2004-11-16 19:28:03
to disenchant items u need to have some sort of runed rod in your inventory. from there just go to your skills window and disenchant should be available (assuming you've trained for enchanting).
Disenchanting and Enchanting
Reply Posted by Mahlus333 on 2004-11-17 14:44:36
First off, to disenchant you have to have the tradeskill learned, i don't remember if you automatically get the recipe to make your first rod, or you have to buy it, but you need it for low lvl enchantments and disenchanting in general.

The higher lvl you get, you'll be required to create another runed rod, those recipes you can buy from your trainer.

And like i said in an earlier post, if you have a creation tradeskill as well, (ie. smithing, tailoring, or leatherworking) this will make enchanting go alot smoother as you can simply make more items to disenchant.

The cheap way i found to level up your enchanting skill, is to keep re-enchanting the same thing over and over, simply overwriting the current enchantment witht the same thing, you'll get a number of easy skillups from this. For example, a low lvl enchant you get is "+1 stamina" added to your bracer, it only requires 3 "strange dust" to do it, just keep enchanting your same bracer with that buff, and you'll skillup like mad. but first what i'd recommend, is you can get your first (i think) 45 points in enchanting, simply from disenchanting items.

As for the graphical effects on weapons, certain enchantments do add a particle effect to your weapons, but from what i've seen to make them "shine" your weapon has to be edged, and a "sharpening stone" is what causes that effect, it adds bonus damage to an edged weapon.

Hope this post helps some.

Are you Serious? Why would Someone flame warstrike?
Reply Posted by GCrazy on 2004-11-19 13:13:35
I think warstrike has a valid argument, wondering why enchantments would be good.  The person who replied to him was obviously someone who had taken enchanting and liked it so they flamed him without even hardly reading his post or giving an answer to his question.  So warstrike was correct in calling this person a moron.  Then another flame comes in from someone who writes a really long post about how all warstrike was doing was creating problems.  This person made up a new name just to flame him, I'm sorry but this is my first forum and I just think that people who are not afraid to call morons exactly what they are should not be squelched merely for rocking the boat.  Maybe these people need to realize how retarded they are being so they can fix the way they present themselves.  It just made me angry because his question was perfectly valid, the most useful one I saw towards the top of the page.  Who cares if he doesnt have a character on WOW?  Who goes and looks for him anyways?  If he doesnt like enchanting then fine explain to him why he should dont just hate on him, that just makes enchanting look worse because your response to "how good is enchanting?"  is pans out to be something like "ENCHANTING IS THE BEST! NOOB!"
Reply Posted by Shiv on 2004-11-19 18:37:01
Warstrike may have been well within his right to question the utility of the enchanting profession, but instead of asking the question, he called enchanting horrible and useless without even understanding the nature or use of the profession. He didn't even know that enchantments stack on top of the natural bonuses of the item, which seemed to form the basis of his bad opinion of enchanting. Several people corrected him on that issue. It's fine if he thinks enchanting is lame, but to think it's lame because of something that's obviously false to anyone who's ever bothered to try the profession in-game is, quite simply, idiocy. That is why he was flamed.
To Flame or Not to Flame
Reply Posted by Mahlus333 on 2004-11-19 18:43:06
In some way Warstrike did have a valid argument, but he was complaining about a tradeskill that wasn't even complete yet, since enchanting has been fleshed out to quite a bit more than what it used to be, it is quite a useful skill to have around.  As an enchanter in my guild i often recieved messages from guildmates looking for chants, and was constantly getting items in my mailbox for raw materials.

I can't really agree with the way Warstrike responded when his thoughts were challenged though, it was a bit childish.  But i can understand why he questioned this tradeskill, i think he just went about it the wrong way.

And if this is your first forum, you haven't seen anything yet in terms of flaming.  Welcome to the Internet, where you'll meet all the assholes you never wanted to.

But, besides that, as an echanter i was able to achieve a skill of 150 before open beta shut down, and i had used every single enchantment i had available, at least 3 or more times.  Maybe it was just us, but we found Enchant far superior to armor patches.

And thus far, it looks as though only Bracers, Cloaks, Gloves, Boots, Shields, Chestplates, and Weapons, can be enchanted, i might be leaving 1 out tho.

But whichever way you want to go, that's up to you, im just offering my valid argument.

During the Beta I rolled a mining, engineering, fishing and cooking warlock.  While engineering was fun and it did get me some armour that would otherwise be unavailable to my class, it is not really practical for my class.  So a tailoring, enchanting, fishing and cooking warlock it is.  I'll make my own pimp armour, and cook up my heals and buffs.  With a pet to tank, this has to be one of the best rolls available.

Anyone try anything like this?  What do you guys think?

I'd have to agree with the tailoring/enchanting combo. Fishing and cooking are, of course, a big plus to a solo warlock (since you can't conjure your own food like a mage). Some of the high-level tailoring stuff is really nice... some of the best gear adds dmg for spells and stats. Enchanting seems to compliment it well in that it adds even more defense on some peices, and resists/health points.

I tried engineering on my mage and got it almost to artisan, but I didn't find it very useful. Oddly enough the things I liked most were the goggles and the mechanical pets... But in your case, since you're a warlock, the pets are redundant and you can make way better gear with tailoring.

shaman with enchanting?

In retail i plan to play a shaman, and I was wondering if enchanting was wise choice. I see that tailoring and enchating is a good combo, but shamans can use leather armour. What would be a good combo for a leather wearing class?
maybe...
Reply Posted by Heinous on 2004-11-20 11:41:59
You might just want to skin and leathercraft.  If you weren't interested in doing two professions then enchanting on it's own would be cool since you could ench your own stuff and make some $ doing others.  You won't have much fun being a leather crafting enchanter though, as you would have to buy or trade to get all leather crafting materials.
Worth it?
Reply Posted by spitanga on 2004-11-20 15:17:41
The answer is maybe.  The cost to raise enchanting is very high and the return not very impressive.  I took tailoring and enchanting; even with my partner saving and giving me all magical gear found; I still found myself low on cash.  Granted I was a warlock; buying spells for myself and pet was a very costly process.

I will not take enchating in the beggining but I will pursue it later in the game when I have cash to spare.
Shamans wear mail later

Bio, leatherworking and ench might get useless when shams are able to wear mail at lvl 40. But, I plan to go shaman for retail also and was wondering if blacksmithing/mining or engineering/mining is a good combo for the sham
A question?

Thanks shiv and mahlus for the intelligent responses.  I'm going to make a gnome warlock enchanter/tailor and was just wondering when is the earliest one can begin enchanting.

For example where are the monsters that drop the first reagents needed for enchanting and where are the trainers who first train the skill?  Or am I supposed to start by disenchanting?
Sorry this might've been answered before but I scanned the page and saw some vague references to all of this but nothing explaining it in depth.

Lustedone, Bio - If you take leatherworking, you can actually make mail armor! Try checking out the leatherworking page for the higher-level recipes (I think mail starts at about 200 leatherworking skill). Though I think the variety is more limited than blacksmithing, a lot of the blacksmithing stuff might be useless to you until you reach level 40.

Both Mining/Engineering and Mining/Blacksmithing are good combos. You won't get very far with Blacksmithing if you don't have the materials to make stuff... which Mining gives you. Same goes for Engineering.

GCrazy - The first reagent you need to start enchanting stuff is the "Runed Copper Rod" and you can make it yourself, provided you have some simple wood and a copper rod. Both of these are sold on most tradeskill suppliers, particularly the Enchanting supplier, so no worries there. Usually, whereever there is an Enchanter trainer, there's a supplier closeby. Additionally, Enchanter trainers are located at various places in the world, some of them are hidden. But you can definitely find one at the capital cities (Undercity, Stormwind, etc.)

Once you have a Runed Copper Rod you can start enchanting stuff. Think of it as a Blacksmith's hammer. However, you still need the materials to cast an enchantment. For instance, if you want to give some chestpiece a Minor Health enchantment, you still need one Strange Dust. The Strange Dust is used up once you cast the enchantment - the Runed Copper Rod is not. To get this dust and shards, you disenchant an already-magical item.

Question about twinking:

Are there any restrictions on enchanting low level items with high level enchantments?  For example, is it possible to enchant a level 9 sword with Icy Chill (an enchantment that requires a 1.5% drop off a lvl 50+ creature)?
Reply Posted by Shiv on 2004-11-20 21:18:19
Actually, now that you mention it... There's nothing (to my knowledge) that stops you from putting really high level enchantments on low level gear.

I've looked into that myself a little bit, and i've seen nothing for level requirements on enchantments, i thought that was kinda funny actually considering the capabilities it will give your lower level twink.

"So this is your warrior huh?" "Yeah, just got some crap gear on im' right now though." "Oh yeah? What's his HP at right now?" "Let's see, i'm level 4 with....835."

Let the Goofy Shit ensue.

As for the Shaman questioning what skills to get, i would suggest Leatherwork/Skinning above most combinations for a shaman, although Alchemy/Herbalism is also a good combo.  Now being in a guild did make it easier to decide which skills for our guys to acquire, BUT, leatherworking can actually branch off into 3 'specialist' skills, Tribal Leatherworking, Dragonscale Leatherworking, and Elemental Leatherworking, so we had 3+ Leatherworkers/Skinners, now, im not quite sure what the difference is between them, save that dragonscale let's you wear your creations that count as 'mail', we don't have much information on the rest.  The only real problem is about these unique branches out, is that you have to do a quest in order to obtain the necessary skills, and you can only take one of the three to master.  Once you choose which master skill you want, there's no going back.

So choose well grasshoppa'

But the way i see it boil down, if you do plan to play solo, the only real way you want to take enchanting, is if you're a cloth class.  It just seems to fit the best, but that's only if you want to do enchanting in the first place.  As i've said before, take the tradeskills that build off eachother, it will make everything alot easier, and yes enchanting is definatly a money sink, but i still consider it far too valuable to give up because of that.

I'm going to be a shaman in retail and so is my bro.. personally I dont see how enchanting is useful. I think having 1 go leatherworking/skinning and 1 go alchemy/herbalism would be better. Plus a friend of my bro's who's going to be a warrior is going mining/blacksmithing so he can supply our mail after lvl 40. These professions seem like a much better moneymaker also.Enhanting seems to have minimal bonuses. I'd like to hear what u guys think.

To Mumux: I have yet to see an enchant for 'Dodge Bonus', so i don't believe one exists, they might input something like that later tho.

To Milkos: Sharpstones/Weightstones will stack with an Enchanted weapon, but if an article of armor has an armor patch on it, the enchantment will replace it, vice versa, cederus perabus.

Do any of you master enchanters know of any high points enchanting would have for a rogue?  I have seen that you can enchant equipment, but havnt seen much of the enchants you can use.

Like for a weapon, all i see up there is a bonus to slaying beats.  Is there any increased damage? +Agility/Other?

What kind of bonus can be given to armor? +stats? +def? dmg reduction?  Anyone have some detail information on that?

I'm trying to figure out which skills would benifit me most as a rogue...but after reading all these comments, not much information on what type of bonuses you can recieve.  Seems like mostly money is the key aspect in this profession.

Thanks...

Enchanting questions:

Skilling up enchanting at a low level seems difficult.  I have found maybe a dozen green items on the road to level 15 (yeah i'm a noob whatever) This hardly seems like enough to even get close to hitting even the 75 needed to go up to the next level.  Am I missing something?
In comparison, during that same duration of time I was able to get my tailoring up to around 85 just using the linen drops off humanoids. Is enchanting supposed to be a more "advanced" or difficult trade skill?

Also, as a tailor you can make items with magical stats (pants with +1 stamina etc)  Can these be disenchanted, making your two trade skills at least somewhat complimentary?  Or do they have to be dropped items?

Thanks.

I'm tailor/enchanter, and yes it's long, hard, expensive, but soooo interesting.

Kick a garbage and you'll see tons of blacksmiths popping out :)
And I want to be different.

And you disenchant you own items crafted with tailorng to get reagents for enchanting :)

I sujest taking up Fishing for added income. Fishing is cheep and you get loots like weapons and so on that you can sale for several copper. Basic fish sell for 3 copper and others sell for 6. Weapons range from 30 to 99 copper and even more depending on what your fishing is at.

Just something to think about.

How are you supposed to skill up?  It's too damned expensive.

I don't believe you need a recipe for disenchanting. You should've learned it when you first got the profession. Hit P in-game and check the uppermost tab, you should see it there.
You get the Disenchant ability when you take Enchanting

Look in the Ability page of your "spellbook". You will see a button for Disenchant. Move it to a hotkey bar and use it on items you want to disenchant. =)

Yes - Enchantments are permanent. Poisons are temporary. I think most any item in the game (except trinkets/rings/necklaces) can have one of each. (This doesn't include stats/abilities on the item to begin with)
Kits vs Enchanting
Reply Posted by caterwaul1 on 2004-11-27 17:44:53
My husband took leatherworking/skinning, I took tailoring/enchanting.  So far we have had good success in useability of our crafts for our level, and were happily surprised by it (DAoC players know what I mean by that).  However when he can put a +16 armor factor increase on any armor (including cloth) and I can only put a +5 health or mana boost, I feel that perhaps this profession will not be worthwhile in the long run.  I am concerned since this is an expensive and difficult to level craft for a new player with so far little/no applicability.  I actually prefer his armor factor increase over my own skill, how could I charge anyone else for something even I wont use?

I'd like to hear from someone who really knows and (played in beta) from a larger viewpoint of what the true usefulness of enchanting is, before I poor ny more resources into this.

Armor looses effect the higher you get and also gives diminishing returns.
+16 armor is an medium kit, so you should be able to do at least +15 life on chests which might have bigger impact on warriors or paladins as they have very high armor values anyway.
Enchanting is also interesting since you can add enchants to things that can't be enhanced with armor kits like bracers or capes.

The mystery of the Brown Linen Robe

Hi all,

As a priest tailor/enchanter (105/50), it would seem that the Brown Linen Robe would be the enchanter's best friend since it's relatively cheap to make (esp. since Linen doesn't raise my tailor score anymore) and according to Thottbot, it drops a Lesser Magic Essence ~30% of the time.  However, I have never seen one of my robes drop anything but Strange Dust.  Is it a function of your Enchant skill?  Is Thottbot wrong?  Am I just seeing a temporary statistical anomaly?  Thanks for your input.

Temporary statistic anomoly, thats what i disenchant and I do get the rarer things sometimes. I believe i once even got a stack of 2 or 3 of them from one robe, keep it up!

Also what are the more popular enchantments that I can make good money enchanting for players. Say like the one the level 26 was making 1g each on.

Where can I find a teacher for artisan? or is it a drop? in which case how badass do I have to get before I can get the drop...

btw, to those that have said it's expensive to level... goto the van cleef instance a few times (or the stockades) you get badass greens/blues from stuff in there, disenchants from 2 rounds will gain you 20+ levels easy... and the rounds take like a half hour.

I suppose if 2-3g in items that you would've sold is expensive... yeah... but c'mon that is nothing in the long run.

Mining and Enchanting is Great

Some people were talking about what tradeskill to get with enchanting...well I went mining. It lets me get alot of the reagents for rods, such as Shadowgems and Silver, extra money when I need it, you can enchant Thorium bars latter to sell, and with whatever's left over you can send to an alt to build up engineering or b.smithing. Really a great combo so far; I haven't run into any sort of hangups like not being able to get a Silver rod without paying out the wazoo for the ingredients, and little perks like that give you an edge on the competition.

Prices of Enchants

Last edit: 2004-12-05 03:29:45
My biggest issue is selling price.  I don't want to know how much $ I've thrown into this skill.  Not to mention money missed out on by my guildmates giving me all their green items (except some that sell for crazy ammounts in the AH).  But when it comes time to enchant, it's not really easy to know what the value of things like a Small Glimmering Shard is.  But then there is also what the customer will pay.  Previously I couldn't even "give" enchants away at 2s each.  However, since I've gotten Beastslayer it's been impossible to keep enough reagents on hand, everyone wants it.

If I ever find a large shard and can do the +3 dmg enchant to confirm that it makes things glow blue, then I'm sure I'll have a new best seller, except that I've not seen a large shard yet, and I'm a level 153 enchanter.

I enjoy the profession, and I think it'll be in demand when people hit level 60, but in  the mean time all I can really do is cut some of the costs of leveling up this skill.

If you, Warstrike, thinks enchanting is lame, them what is good about Alchemy and Engineering? Alchemy, most of the potions just restore your health and mana and give you extra stats, so why not be a priest like me and get enchanting and some other good professions, like Tailoring or Blacksmithing? And you can just use potions once, while most of the enchantings can stay permanently. But on Engineering, I think its fine, but if I were you, I won't choose it.

There are afew enchants you can place on weapons.  1 is a Fire proc that has a good chance to do 40 fire damage, the other one i remember is a frost proc that stuns for a few secs.

Disenchant info is a mistake onm fish, for 1 its not green or better, 2 only weapons n armor can be disenchanted.

The Higher lvl you get the more common shards of lower lvls are to get.  The ones that you need to do proc enchants will be harder to get and dont expect to get it for less than 20g, my guess is they gonna be 50g min, with most going for 100g.  remember the regents are harder to come by for these enchants.

1-4g enchants are, + weapon dmg, bane dmg(beast, elemental. ect), movement speed on boots, +5-7 to stats enchant, the armor to back items, like +70 to back is huge.

+ weapon dmg enchants do NOT add glowing effects to weapons, only bane dmg and proc enchants.

the + weapon dmg enchants are just that they add that much dmg to the weapon.  Which means if you get a +5 dmg enchant and you have 2.00 delay weapon you add +2.5 dps to your weapon.

Rods are used in enchanting as a regent, not used just required to cast the enchant.  The enchanter makes them, from various parts and a smelted Rod from blacksmithing.

Wands are useible ranged weapons for casters.

Reply Posted by Kunggi on 2004-12-07 22:29:27
If item is binds on equip and character gives that item to you, can you enchant that and give it back to him? I'm bit noob with this alchemy and just wondering is there any process where you have to use that item.

Also, if character has 300 in enchanting, does that mean that he can enchant any item that you can enchant without thinking of any requerements, like attributes maybe?

Thank You.
Anything?

Is there situations where you can't enchant some items? Example, becouse item is Rare/Epic or it needs some other requerements to enchant, like levels and so on? Or can you just enchant anything as long as it's required item like sword/shield/chest/bracer..?

The Artisan Enchanter (max skill 225) is located in Tower of Azora in Elwynn Forest...east of Goldshire. The Master Enchanter (max skill 300) is located inside the uldaman instance, which is in Badlands.

To clarify any weapon glowing issues: +3 dam to 1H, +3 dam to 2H, +2 beastslaying will glow, obviously anything higher than that will also.
Glows blue, blue, red...respectfully.

Enchant weapon striking does add a glowing effect to your weapon.  The bane weapons add a red glowing effect to your weapon.  I know for sure once you get enchant weapon striking at 195 skill or whatever it is , it adds a blue glow to your weapon.

The Artisan Enchanter for Alliance is in the Tower of Azora in the Elwyn Forest.  The Master Enchanter is in the Uldaman Instance. (Yes this place sucks to put a trainer, lvl 40+ Elites)

As for Black Pearls... You can find them in the clams dropped by naga.  Best place to kill them is in Stranglethorn Vale.  Just North-Northeast of Booty Bay.

Kunggi
Soulbound Items can be enchanted.. if you open a trade window, look at the very bottom..  If you place your Soulbound item into that slot, the enchanter clicks his enchant button and clicks on your item.. once both of you hit trade, then enchantment takes hold.
As for your 2nd question, I dont quite understand what your asking, but if you mean to say, can an enchanter with (300) skill overwrite lower enchantments, then the answer is yes, but so can a lower lvl one.  Any enchantment can be replaced by another higher or lower quality enchantment.

tsonagge
Your thinking is correct.  Reagents are equivalent to the level of the weapon.  ie a lvl 32 weapon/armor will drop higher level reagents for skill than a lvl 22 one will.

IJustCantWin
Enchantments do not make an Item "Soulbound".  So unless the item is Soulbound before hand, you can move it to any character you want, or sell it, or whatever.

The trick i did with enchant and cloth skills was make a brown robe ( i think it's the lowest green one) with 3 Linen threads and string. From there you can extract the comps with disenchant or you can enchant it with the +5 hp to back for 1 lesser essance. Hope this helps and if anyone has tips from 60+ please share =)

Reply Posted by theinnerpalm on 2004-12-13 22:57:54
although the attributes many enchantments add are for the most part lame, many add special effects to weapon. i.e: minor beast slaying makes weapons glow red. many non-casters that have different professions want these special effects so if you have an enchantment that adds a cool effect you can make LOTS of money. most casters chose tailoring for one of their professions, and the only other profession that can do them some good is enchanting.

i play a paladin and found the formula for minor beastslayer, which i had no use for, so i  auctioned it off for a lil over 1 gold(sold to vendors for 1 silver 25 copper)

I'm finding 90% of the patchable enchants completely useless. Especially with leather; Patches far outweigh the benefit from a +20 +50hps or +3 to a stat.. (even agil doesn't make up for the ac) only way I Could see it is on plate or perhaps a mages robes that don't care about absorb. Wish these things would stack..

Alright, I've read all the replies down, but anyone that may be confused by this should not be subjected to the ridiculous banter than ensues.

Enchanting does not overwrite existing stats of loot-dropped or blacksmith crafted items.  They are a single add-on stat.  AFAIK, the stat can also stack with an existing stat.  If I am wrong, please let me know (in a pleasant, helpful way).

Enchanting can make good money, but it also costs a lot of time and money to get far into.  It is much more difficult to get higher levels than most other professions.  The bulk of your materials come from disenchanting green+ items which either costs time gathering them or money buying them.  Other items are occasional loot drops and blacksmith-crafted items such as bronze/silver rods and the like.

Very true.

Are you saying the same thing as the sentence above?  If so, then yes.  The enchanted item will stack with a pre-existing stat, either from being a drop, quest item or player made item.

If you are saying it will stack with an existing stat by means of a player added stat, then no, you are wrong.  Any player addition to stat bonuses will be overwritten (ie. armor kit or other enchantments).

Simply put, if an item has a bonus that was not apart of it's original creation, then it will be overwritten by any enchantments or armor kits.

To enchant an item, you first need ingredients that you get by disenchanting another item.  How were the "first" enchantments done?

After thinking about it, i guess blizzard's answer is that items can be given extra stats (agil, str, etc) through other crafts.  Disenchanting somehow extracts those abilities out and uses them for enchanments.  Anyway...

Hey there fellow enchanters, I have heard quite a bit lately that people don't quite know what to charge for enchantments.  I went through the Auction house buying tons of items and then disenchanted them... Figured out price per regent from that disenchanting.  I then took an average of all the same items that i disenchanted and came up with a table of what each of the regents cost.

I added a small 10% proffit onto the average for the prices in the table.  This will give you a basic idea of what its gonna cost to do an enchantment.  Use it as a guide for yourself, or disregard it toatly, makes no differance to me... just throughing out some info.

The 'first' enchantments...
Reply Posted by Hentaya <Guardians of Fire> on 2004-12-18 19:39:46
Obviously there are two types of 'enchantments' in the Warcraft Universe:

Type 1 Enchantments are 'creation' enchantments. These are part and parcel of creating an object in a certain manner. As players, we don't see all the steps and intricacies of creation; the game interface into the WU only lets us rub hands together when we have a certain number of ingredients and a certain 'recipe' which contains the steps necessary to come up with an enchanted item.

Type 2 Enchantments are 'modification' enchantments. Of course, there's no lore, but I can imagine a frustrated 'recipe writer' tinkering with the afterproduct, and realizing that there's a process that takes an item which has a 'creation' enchantment, and converting it to NEW ingredients, that didn't exist before, and which can, with much the same process, be used in a very restricted way to enhance an object AFTER its creation.

Now, why does a type 2 enchantment remove an 'armor kit', in terms of the WU explanations? Well, that goes behind the scope of this answer, but I'm sure a proper response would be that it has something to do with the object being 'unmodified'...even if it's NOT magical. So to enchant, you remove the armor kit first, destroying it beyond repair...similarily, modifying the original equipment enough to make an armor kit work, destroys the link to the 'original' equipment, and makes the type 2 enchantment fade.

I got it up to 130 and i think it is pretty much a waste of a profession, its so expensive to keep having to buy green and blue items for the materials then getting 5s from ppl to enchant them. And rigfht now  i dont think its worth destroying a green item to add +2 beastslaying.

They added an enchantment with this last patch.  Upon doing the Holiday gift recovery quest (lvl30 min to get), you can get a random tradeskill formula/recipe/plan...
Enchanting one is this:
Enchant Weapon - Winter's Might (Enchanting 190)
Adds up to 5 frost damage to frost spells.
Takes 3 Greater Mystic Essence, 3 Vision dust, 1 Large Glowing Shard, 2 Winter's Bite.

Since I havent gotten any Large Glowing shards yet, I cant tell ya if it glows and what color.

Well I've got a guild now with a lot of good trade skills going.  I think one of the things that makes a really strong guild is good trade skills. that said I think a good guild needs at least one of everything, meaning:

3 leather workers, 1 for each specialty
2 blacksmiths, 1 for each specialty
1 Engineer
1 or 2 alchemists
1 or 2 tailors
1 enchanter

I also want to point out that I don't think tailors are best off making enchanting their second skill and I don't think enchanters should make tailoring their second skill.

The biggest complaint I hear from Tailors is that they need a lot of cloth. Here's the solution, go tailor/skinning.  This way you can make even trades with people, trust me leather workers will jump at the opportunity to trade 40 silk for 40 heavy leather.  Of course this also means you'll have more leather to supply guild members.

The biggest complaint i hear from enchanters is that it's really expensive.  Here's your solution, go enchanter/miner. I have a guildie now who went tailor/miner and he claims mining makes him so much money he can just buyout cloth at auction whenever he wants to just to build his tailoring skill.  If mining without smithing can be such a moneymaker, then it seems like the perfect complement for enchanting.

Go in the back door entrance of Uldaman. Take the first fork to the right. From there, go straight at the next fork and take the 3rd fork left. This should set you along the path to the trainer.

If these directions end up sucking, she's very close to the back door; just search around there.

I'm a skinner/leatherworker, just checking out all the professions, but i'll have you know that (not trying to be mean or anything at all) Once you get all the artisan stuff and all in leatherworking you can either train in Tribal or Dragon Scale leatherworking.  Tribal provides better leather armor and Dragon Scale provides mail armor using scales skinned off dragons.  So, no, dragon scale working not useless.

I've been to Uldaman 3 times since hitting 250, now the last time at skill level 270.  The trainer is empty empty empty! Am I doing something wrong here?

At 250 I went in and bought every recipe - they were all green - no unavailable recipes - I did check the filter (new since last patch).

At 260 I went back in and no recipes listed.  At 270 I went back in and no recipes listed.

Soooo my questions are ...

  • after purchasing the level 250 recipes from the trainer are ALL the rest ONLY available as drops or vendor purchases (or auction house)?

  • I am level 48, is there perchance a level requirement to access the 255+ recipes?

TIA for any knowledgeable response! :)

The speed on boots enchantment is not functioning at the moment - a gm tells me they're 'working on a solution'.

Enchanting's great, towards higher levels people begin seeking enchantments in preference to armour patches. Everyone loves stats.

I find being an enchanter/skinner works great - I give my leather to leatherworkers, who make stuff for me to disenchant, which I then enchant them with. Win-win. Yay!

Unless you keep your tailoring up, disenchanting green items you make stops working after about 85 enchanting. At 230 Enchanting I'm broke because I never sell green items since I always disenchant them for their ingredients. Mining may be good for making money but If you keep tailoring up it is much more useful.

I consider this skill a great endgame skill.  Once you've hit level 60 and have gotten the equipment you want/need, enchanting allows you to tweak the best equipment possible to make it that much more incredible.  However, I'm going to stick to leathermaking til the higher levels, then maybe take up stuff like engineering and enchanting. Just my 10 cents (my 2 cents are free).

I've got a skinner/leatherworker now, however I plan on having a leatherworker/enchanter. So I started mailing green and blue items to my twink who I made for disenchanting items, to stock up on dusts/essences for when I drop skinning. My question is: Is there a lvl requirement for disenchanting higher lvl items? Also, if a low lvl enchanter disenchants a high lvl item, will he still get the high lvl materials or will it be based on his lvl as an enchanter? (IE a lvl 6 gnome with lvl 1 enchanting disenchants wicked leather gauntlets, will he get soul dust? or like a greater magical essence or something)
Reply Posted by Eldrac on 2005-01-11 11:50:13
Asazi, When disenchanting items, the player level or their enchanting level has no effect on what it disenchants into, only the item level, so you could be a level 1 character and get some illusion dusts, etc.

there are no set enchanting prices. It all depends on supply and demand. 2 days ago i was selling soul dust for 90s per stack. Yesterday that price more than doubled. Same goes for Greater magic essence. They were going for 2g a stack. This morning i checked my auctions before work, and i had sold a stack for 4.5g. If you want a good price to charge, go to the AH. See what things are selling for and add a small fee for your time and effort.
Retail Prices For Enchants

I saw someone ask how much should they charge players for a beast slaying enchant. Just based on vendor prices of components, you are going to have to charge at least 75sp for the minor beastslaying enchant to turn a profit, unless you have guildies funneling you free items to disenchant.

I charge these prices and people have been pretty good at paying them. It may seem high but shards arent cheap. You either have to buy them from the AH at inflated prices or disenchant blue items, which are easy to randomly come by.

Crafted Items That Disenchant?

So far, I've only found two items that can be crafted that disenchant into useful items:

Brown Linen Robes = Strange Dust
Rough Boomstick = Lesser Magic Essence

Does anyone else know of any other items that can be crafted easily and disenchanted?

I have a lvl 36 LW at 230+ skill and a lvl 17 enchant/tailor. Any green/blue item you craft can be disenchanted into useful items. Even some of the earlier tailoring items can yield Greater Magic Essence. I frequently get Greater Mystic and Astral essence from mid lvl leatherstuffs. A couple stacks of linen can put out a stack of strange dust and a few lesser magic essence which turn into greater. The good thing about this is the sell prices on essence. You make a huge profit selling essence and using strange dust up to 100 enchanting skill.

i am at lvl 225 enchant right now and i can tell u that enchant is great
its also a money sinker hehe u can be hella rich one moment then be poor as hell the next, I took tailor/enchant.
as for the glows effect u guys were talking about
BeastSlayer give redish glow
+3damage and up give blue glow.
when u get lvl 150 u can go to the expert in sun rock retreat, he's at the top of the mountain right by the entrance. or should i say straight north from where u get the quest Gaea Seed.
to get past lvl 225 u need to go to Uldaman. lvl 36-43 instance.

Beastslaying = red
Demonslaying = flame
Fiery Enchant = flame
Damage (+3/+4 to 1H & +5/+7 to 2H) = blue
Damage (+5 to 1H & +9 to 2H) = white
Icy Chill = white

i'm pretty sure the Crusader enchant is white as well, as it uses the Brilliant shards

Anonymity + Audience = Mindless posts from guys like this. Complete fucking idiots with access to keyboards and limited vocabularies.

Warstrike probably could've asked the question in a less abrasive manner, but the truth is he did say he was viewing the profession with an untrained eye. The truth is Enchanting can be really good later on, but starting it is frustrating unless you start off at a late level, and have access to all kinds of green/blue items.

He didnt really ask a question. All he said was that enchanting was lame cause natural mods are better. His first comment was "i could be wrong here". He then went on to say that if enchanting didnt overwrite current mods, it would be a viable trade. Internet and Steelwind were definately in the wrong for automatically flaming him when everything he said was perfectly true, even though he was wrong.

enchanting makes good money, i make about 50g a day or more with just 3 enchants, a +100to health on chest i sell for 20g each, thats a dam good payment for enchanting if you ask me. +all the loot i get from monsters (not the stuff i can disenchant) also sells for bout 50s for like 1 tooth of a monster. I choose mining for my enchanter so i can make money selling the ores and bars, then i buy stuff at AH to lvl up my skill or go to instances.

Reply Posted by Boverine <Warriors of Apocalypse> on 2005-01-26 09:30:26
This may be due to people opening a lockbox and disenchanting the item before they loot it, if it is possible. You can't disenchant a lockbox.

Tailoring is a great second skill for enchanting. You get more enchant mats by disenchanting items you make. If you dont want a profession to support enchanting and would rather make money, i would go with skinning. There is never a lack of things to skin.

Do they yield mutiple shards/dusts?

the weak weapon enchants dont glow. The damage enchants that make weapons glow blue are not all that bright, probably not as bright as some of the stuff you are already wearing.

Most people that I know that take enchanting take tailoring with it.  Tailoring requires no gathering skill, (although occasionally to make shoes you need leather...), and the plus side of tailoring is you can disenchant the green and above items that you make.  Basically you can feed the enchanting. :)

I have a level 20 enchanter and a level 43 that supplies items to be disenchanted. My enchanter stop gaining skills after he hit 75 or so, no matter what i sent him to disenchant. I believe skill ups on disenchanting is just a way to get off to a start with enchanting and was not meant to be a significant factor in developing the skill.
Disenchanting and Auctionhouses
Reply Posted by lettersbutnotwords on 2005-02-01 00:50:24
Disenchanting, in the beginning gives birth to very simple items...
strange dust and lesser magic essence
These can both be bought from an enchantig supplier for .08. (8 silver) each, LIMITED SUPPLY, but the strange twist is - you cant sell it back to vendors... even these "magic elements" you make yourself via disenchantment. So - this would make you think "huh?" "what" - "worthless"...
WRONG
If you didnt notice, magic elements are not soulbound, so you can go to the auctionhouse!!!  This is where the beauty of enchanting comes in!

Strange dust is the more common of the bunch... normaly under action you would set it at half of what you can buy it for (.08.) or double what you'd be able to sell it for (nil) - so that would start at .04. - because it's so common, you want to stack it in the max piles (10)... multiply this by .04. and you have a starting bid of .40. now, for buyout (because some people are just plain impatient) set it for just .05. the lowest buyout for the same item - if you're the only one out there - go .85. - and amazingly you get that quite often... pretty nifty deal even if you just bought the item from the store.

Lesser magic essence can be gathered, but it's only a 20% chance in the beginning (assuming you are disenchanting with the best co-profession: tailoring).  So - it's a little more sought after.  now... because of this rarity, the bid price goes WAY up... most people start the bid for ONE lesser magic around .40. - I've tried this and it has not worked for me yet (and I set it to a .40. bid buyout 24 hour auction).  but I first started one lesser magic essence at .04. (buyout .35.) and it made it all the way up to .14.50 I then started another lesser magic essence after that at .14. (bidout .35.) and I got the .35.

You can easily get 1. (1 gold) just through about 3 auctions of 10 strange dust and 1 lesser magic... it's a pretty gnarly deal.  And for buffing items - that's just for very small, minor thing... but for me - that's not what enchanting is all about. plus - you dont have to pay a deposit to the auctionhouse

For the disenchantig probabilty of any GREEN or higher item (it HAS to be green or higher... even if you have magical qualitys added to it) find it here on thottbot under "disenchants to"

The next time you have a lousy day why not consider keeping it to yourself instead of sharing it with the rest of us, eh?  We all have real lives and real problems to deal with, and this is one of our few places we try to escape from all that at.  Ugly, hateful posts like yours not only fail to solve your problems, but they make others feel badly about themselves.

After skill level 50 or so you dont gain skill points by disenchanting items. You only gain skill points by doing enchants. The only one that garauntees a skill point are orange enchants, the others have a percentage chance to raise your skill level.
Glow Effects for Weapons
Reply Posted by chippewa on 2005-02-01 15:34:11
beastslaying = red glow
striking & impact= blue glow (the higher damage the brighter the glow)
elemental slaying = yellow glow
demonslaying & fiery weapon = flaming glow
crusader = white glow
lifestealing = purple glow

Shards come from disenchanting blue items. The higher the level the better the shard.

Dusts come from disenchanting green armor primarily.
Essences come from disenchanting green weapons primarily.

The higher the level the items the higher the dust or essence. You also have a slight change of getting essence from armor, dust from weapons, or a very slim chance of getting a shard from the very high level green items.

i dont agree with tailoring and enchanting, cuz i have a better idea

first, to be honest, enchanting is not good for a beginner player, if u just started WoW i dont suggest u to get enchanting, unless u know how to do it

now, my trick is this, i have a 50 char, and this char whos just 25+, what i do to get the supplies is very simple, i solo low lv instance with my other char, and get tons of craps, no use for me, and selling em is waste of time, but hey, y not blow em up so u can get the items to enchant? being horde, i went to WC only once and i got... minimun 15+ green items, which is around 25+ supplies, didnt waste that much time finding cloths and buying more supplies from npc to make the cloth and then blowin em up.

the other proffession i chose was herbalism, since u got enchanting to get $$, with herbalism u can get more money! once u r high lv, u can get herbs such as sungrass, mountain silversage, etc that u can sell for very high price (alchemist will buy it cuz they will lv up in alchemy and also selling the potions can make fortunes!)

so... my suggestion for u, is enchanting/herbalism

ohh i forgot to mention, my other char is an alchemist, so it means more supplies for me :D
Reply Posted by chippewa on 2005-02-02 15:47:20
My enchanting is 270.  I switched to enchanting around level 45. Originally I was herbalism and alchemy.  I kept herbalism so I could gather herbs for healing and mana potions (as well as sell them in the AH)  I also wouldnt recommend taking enchanting until you are higher level. Its a real money sink especially when you are trying to save for your first mount.  After you have a mount you'll have plenty of extra money and can level up your enchanting pretty quickly.  I think I got to lvl 150 in week. Its also beneficial to wait til you're higher level since the master enchanter trainer is inside the Uldaman instance and you'll need to be in your mid 40's to actually fight your way to him to train new skills.

Enchanting is a money making profession, it just takes a lot of time and money to get high enough to make money.  But now I usually make 30-40 gold in 10 minutes selling weapon enchants. Everyone higher level wants a +7 or +4 dam enchant and the demonslaying also sells well.  I already own the icy chill formula, cant wait til I get to 285 to sell it.  =)
Enchanting after 250 & Epics
Reply Posted by chippewa on 2005-02-02 15:57:45
All of the formulaes after 250 are random drops.

Epic items yield multiple shards when you disenchant them so some of the not so great epics are actually worth disenchanting if you dont want to sell them in the AH for big money.

dispointed with enchanting
Reply Posted by shardoglase on 2005-02-03 14:25:23
so far im really disapointed with enchanting, ive lost tons of money to gain some really weak abilities on my items.  Hey maybe it pays off in the high end I don't know but so far it just sucks. i mean sure i know get something marginally useful in enchanting 2 handed weapons with spirit or int but considering how much ive lost money wise so far i could buy an item much better than what id get through enchanting what ive got.  every other tradeskill has provided a bigger benefit up to the point ive gotten my many characters(low 20s).  Either there benefits are better or at least im making money off them.

everybody here seems to like it, and im sticking with it since i feel ive gone to far now to unlearn and start a new skill.  But on the low end where your almost to expert level it just sucks.  Anyone thinking of taking this skill i suggest taking some gather skill like mining or skining instead make money and then around level 25+ where green items are more plentiful and maybe even blues start dopping or are given in quests drop the gather skill and speed train enchanting.  Building it up from the get go is just too costly for little to no benefit.

Tailoring/Enchanting made easy
Reply Posted by keybounce on 2004-12-27 06:27:27 As someone who is getting out of Tailoring/Enchanting, here is what I have learned.

The good recipies:

First, ignore brown linen robes. They really stink unless linen is dirt cheap.

Soft soled linen boots.
Gloves of meditation
Earthen vest
Black Mageweave Vest

Specific items: Icy cloak if you need large glowing shards
Possibly azure silk cloak if you need more mystic essence.

This will get you up to 225 in both professions.

This gives approximate costs to you to create items of:
Dust:
Strange 3-3.5
Soul 6
Vision 10-15

Greater essence:
Magic 12
Astral 20-30
Mystic 45
Nether (approx) 50-60

Shards
Small glimmer 30
Large glimmer 100-125
Small glowing 150-175
Large glowing 100-125

The jump for small glowing is odd -- there may be another dropped pattern that I did not find. (Thottbot's data has many items with very few disenchants, and there are some items with obvious errors in the disenchant tables.)

The price ranges are approximate; adjusting different components up or down will (of course) adjust others to compensate.

NB: Blue items are rarely worth disenchanting. They only give 1 shard, with no rounding (green items give "spare change" by giving more items at times.) Do not make spidersilk boots to disenchant. Do not. Not not not. You'll be as sorry as I was :-).

I think it is pretty pathetic that -TWO- lvl 25ish Alliance quests yield MUCH better wands than the best one we enchanters can craft.  What is Blizzard thinking???

actually i dont think enchanting is that good of a money maker even with the weapon glows . the reason is large radiant shard and greater nether essence are so expensive to get.  and ppl on my server dont want to pay big money for it. no one even want + 7 stamina for 5 g .

arcanite rod is hard to get . but i manage to get all the reageats by myself. the hardest ones to find was the arcane crystals which i mined myself. took me about 1 month to find 3 but all in all it didnt cost me more than 5 g.

farming for crusader continues. week 2 day 6 .

Reply Posted by ShaneDiddy on 2005-02-06 08:02:55
Actually the the glow, either blue red or orange, comes from the +3 or higher dmg enchants or any of the slayer (beastslayer, elemental slayer, etc.) enchants.
Also Blacksmith sharpening addons and counter weights can be added on the weapon without replacing  the enchantment.

Enchanting does make good money off the weapon enchants alone. The part you are forgetting is that once you are high level you can pretty much farm your own large radiant shards (and other enchanting components for that matter) so when you do an enchant you are making 100% profit. Of course if you buy all your shards in the AH you wont make much profit since people overcharge for shards.

Large radiant shards come from level 41-45 blue items, which can be farmed from lvl 40-50 instance bosses with relative ease once you are level 60.

I sell 4-6 weapon enchants a day at 10-20 gp each depending on the enchant. Thats usually in 10 minutes standing in from of the bank.

Also, once people reach level cap, they generally prefer stat boosting enchants over armor patches. +7 or +9 stamina, agility, or intelligence enchants on 4 pieces of armor is much better than 160 extra armor.

I'd much rather have +28 stamina from various enchants than a few armor patches any day.

High level enchant fomulas
Reply Posted by HenryS137 on 2005-02-08 10:02:57
Yes, it's very hard to get high level enchant formulas.  I've gotten all that Annora has, and I've used Thottbot to identify targets that drop good formulas (like Vilebranch Shadowcasters in the Hinterlands) and found the Thottbot data just plain wrong, or outdated.

To make things worse, some of the the formulas are "Bind on Pickup" so if a non-enchanter gets the drop it is entirely useless!  Someone wanted to trade me a +5 resist on cloak formula, and we both discovered there was no way that he could use it or transfer it to me!

Am currently lvl 297 enchanter, and still looking for someone who can make the arcanite rod out of the arcanite I have.  Anyone on Windrunner Alliance who can do this, please msg Tyre!

I think that the extreme difficulties of high-end enchanting may be there to keep challenges in the game after lvl 60....look at how difficult it is to get Blood of the Mountain and some of the other materials for the high level enchants, even when you have the formula and the level!

i have almost everything for runed arcanite rod except for the arcanite rod, of course i have plenty of guild mates and friends that im sure would be happy to make me an arcanite rod as long as they were rewarded with plenty of enchants (which i would have no problem with since i will be lvl 60 in a few days and will be able to farm for the shards etc)

I also met with a guy in felwood today that had 2 characters, a lvl 60 pally and a lvl 55 priest, he was controlling both (he had 2 accounts) and from the look of it had been lvling them with each other for quite some time.
That way he was able to kill many 55ish mobs with extreme ease and get lots of drops to disenchant.  I personally wouldnt do this because i cant afford anything like that but the way he had been doing it he was very succesful

Personally, i think enchanting shud be done with a lower lvl char. than ur main char. Meaning... I wud use my higher lvl char., lvl 44 pally, to farm for drops to create shards and essences for my lvl 16 mage. The ppl that stated its easy to farm for lvl 45-50(?) mobs in instances at lvl 60... hmmm at that point of the game when ur lvl 60.. the only thing taht wud be fun is to buy the best gear u can buy... all purple if u can... buy tons of the higest class of pots (the ones that give you 2000 extra hp for 1 hour, or 1600 mp for an hour, etc...) and jus go raiding. I cant really c myself as a lvl 60 mage farming for drops once all my armor n weapon needs are met. I'd be over in kalimdor or UC killin all the low lvl NPC's and any Horder tryin to stop me... I think i wud try to make it a goal of mine to take out 1 full horde town/city once i get to that lvl. That would be pretty hilarious to go with a couple other lvl 60's and take out full towns. I can jus imagine the faces of the lower lvl horde players as they arrive or sign on and wondering.. "WTF happened here!!" They wud be stuck till all the NPC's wud respawn LOL. Other than the raids... i cant c WoW as sumthing that fun unless i was to create a new char.... but thats jus me =/

DUMB IDEA, sure it could be done, but unless you plan to play the low level up to high level too. Advanges to being a enchanter on your main. you can disenchant your old equipment. Your main can be constantly decked out in awesome enchants. when you get to higher levelsyou get a return on your investment when you sell +4 and +7 dam enchants for 18-20 gold (on spinebreaker alliance) demonslaying for 10g, %1 attack speed to gloves for 22g, ect. you get the idea. 51 priest Lifeblood on Spinebreaker.

Ummm.... u sell +4 dmg to weapons? i thought it was 1, 3, 5, 7, 9...? i should go double check to c if thats correct. also... u said u sell 4-7 dmg for 18 - 20g... thats a lil ridculous. I dunno about you, and how much u sell ur enchants for, but i bought my enchant (+s dmg to 2h) for 3.5g. And that was NOT thru a guild member. Just sum random person sellin his chants.. so again, im not sure wut kinda server u play at, and how dumb the players on that server must be to buy a +4 enchant for 18g? or was it +4-7 dmg for 18-20g... but ur either way off, or u jack pple left n right. Also, i dunno if ur entry was to me, but if u have an enchanter as ur 1st/main char... then the first 20 lvls or so will be more dificult than if u have the enchanter as an alt. I have a 44 pally and a 16 mage. The 16 mage lvl's up much quicker in both LVL and Prof skills. And thats because i can provide for my mage with my pally.

it retails for about 3-5g... any prices higher than 5, ur gettin JACKED. n thats for the +5 dmg to 2h weapon.

Only way the 18g for the +4 dmg would sound logical is if the % of pple taht enchant on that server is WAAAAY low. other wise, the prices there are toooo inflated. which in that case, if i was there, i'd sell alot more of them at 5g then all the others selling for 18g

Unless you're going for a mage/priest/warlock class.  Enchanting/Mining or Enchanting/Herbalism is fine if you want to go for Enchanting as your main profession.  Skinning doesn't provide much money as much as the other 2 gathering professions.  Then again if you're going with a leather-wearing class (Rogue/Hunter/Shaman) then you can provide the materials for other leathercrafters to craft for you.

But I Have a LVL Of 0?
So I Was Wondering 'How Do I Get Started?'
Where Do I Learn The ORIGINAL Enchanting Skill BEFORE I Get Journeyman's Enchanting?

Pretty Much What I Need TO Know Is Where Can I Start To Learn Enchanting Without ANY Prior Skills And With a LVL Of 0?

Sorry TO Ask Such a Newbie Question Like That LOL But Id Much Rather Just Ask As Its For My Secondary Character And Id Rather NOT Go Searching unless I Have To! You need to disenchant a green equipment, then you are able to get your first level of enchantment, after you are level-5 or level-10, then you are able to start enchantment in equipments.

we have been calling tailoring/enchanting the bankruptcy combo, because thats what it truely is. As I reach higher levels however, I find myself needing enchanted leather AND enchanted thorium. The bonuses to bracers, weapons and back pieces are getting to be very apealing too since my equipment is more permanent.

We dont need a lot of enchanters though, maby 1 per guild with backups, so as an alternative as a caster you might want to consider engineering. Mostly all engineered items (mostly head) are cloth and add bonuses a caster would benafit from. Mining brings in a lot of tradeables as well. It has been easy to get tailored products since tailoring doesnt need a gathering skill. You can grab cloths you likely already have and ask a tailor buddy to make you whatever it is you need.

LOL!

no offense, but if you have 2 other chars... how the hell do u not know wut the trainer was talkin about?? "Where Do I Learn The ORIGINAL Enchanting Skill BEFORE I Get Journeyman's Enchanting?" hahaha. im not makin fun of u, although its hard not too. Im just guessin/assuming your 2 other chars are also lvl 1 and the prof. skills are also 1.

in regards to the above post, i totally agree. everyone says that enchanters cant make money, blah blah blah. well u first have to get to a high lvl to fuly understand. Once u get up to a certain lvl where ur equip cant get any better, the only things you can do to improve ur stats are to enchant. With enchants that give u +9 strength n dmg bonus... its definatly nice. And if you think those enchants r cheap?? ur crazy. i member i paid 3g for a +5 dmg to 2h enchant when i was lvl 38 (which was a good deal). I had a nice weapon that i didnt have to replace so it was fine. As for the shards and essences you need to enchant? Well when ur at a higher lvl, you can farm the higher green - purp items more easily. (I dont DE the purp ones). Pple make it sound like its so hard being an enchanter, and to make money off the prof. I've experienced the negs as well as the pos, thats why im at it. n for the shards n reagents, i have TONS at the bank right now that i saved for my higher enchants. I got them from my higher pally. which i use to get the green n (some) blue items.

Okay I am a warlock with tailor/enchanting and so far, I only have some of the minor enchants that aren't worth anything.  But on my main char, I have several pieces of equipment enchanted, and I am sorry but +50 armor to a cloak rocks.  That is more than any kit, and it is on a cloak.  Also, I got crusader enchant and, even though it costed a ton of money, is worth it.  Enchating is expensive, but can also be very profitable in spurts.  So I would definatly suggest this for anyone, but especially casters with tailoring.  It only makes sense.

Crusader Enchant
Reply Posted by Kroz on 2005-02-14 12:13:16
If anyone on Mal'ganis (horde) can enchant with Crusader, please send me an in-game email, to Kroz.  I'd be willing to gather the ingredients first, and pay extra for the enchant itself.

BTW, for everyone else here, I've been using the Icy Chill enchant for a week on a fast 1H sword (1.7 sec speed) and it's a total disappointment.  Although the bright white glow is ultra-cool, the proc is near worthless, as it only lasts 5 secs, and only happens once every 4-6 encounters.  It's a very costly enchant, requiring Essence of Air (not cheap!), so I warn everyone to NOT bother with this enchant.  I'd much rather have +4 weapon damage, which is cheaper to get.

Anyone have any experience with Crusader they can share?  I'm looking to put this on two fast lvl 58 Heartseeker daggers, to increase the chance of proc'ing.  I wonder if both daggers proc, will they stack (and give me 200+ str for 15 seconds)?

Well, to each his own but this method is proven slower, plus some people dont want to play multiple characters to level a profession. Like I stated in a previous post much further up the page, I didnt start enchanting until I was around level 45. Originally I was a maxed out alchemist but I switched to enchanting after I had my mount.

"The ppl that stated its easy to farm for lvl 45-50(?) mobs in instances at lvl 60... hmmm at that point of the game when ur lvl 60.. the only thing taht wud be fun is to buy the best gear u can buy... all purple if u can... buy tons of the higest class of pots (the ones that give you 2000 extra hp for 1 hour, or 1600 mp for an hour, etc...) and jus go raiding. Wait til you get to level 60 and see if you say this. I stated its easy to farm level 41-45 blue items from instance bosses in said level range when you are level 60, since these items disenchant into large radiant shards which are the primary components in the damage enchants. Seeing as how I am a level 59 shaman on bloodscalp I think I know what I'm talking about from experience.

Reply Posted by chippewa on 2005-02-14 17:21:52
At level 60 the objective primarily for most people is to do high-end instance runs, quest raids, and craft items to get the best gear, not buy it from the auction house.  Most people in the end game are saving for an epic mount they arent trying to waste hundreds of gold on items in the AH when they could do instance runs and/or craft and get them for free. At level 60 you do A LOT of farming trying to get components for uber gear that is craftable, which will allow you to take on some of the tougher high end content. Certain items are only available inside of high level instances like dark iron ore. Also, some of the highend raid content can really only be beaten if you have ultra uber gear. Most of the best gear you wont be able to buy in the AH because people keep it they dont sell it.

There are a few enchants that I would personally recommend not having.  Icy Chill has a horrible proc rate, and it's extremely expensive (50+G).  Boots:    Haste is bugged and doesn't work atm.

Essence:
Greater/Lesser Magic
Greater/Lesser Mystic
Greater/Lesser Astral
Greater/Lesser Nether (This will be you're bane for a while)
Greater/Lesser Eternal

Shards:
Large/Small Glimmering
Large/Small Glowing
Large/Small Radiant
Large/Small Brilliant

Dust:
Strange
Vision
Soul
Dream
Illusion

Enchanting is excellent when paired with tailoring.  It's quite an expensive combo, but well worth it.  I'm currently at 300/300 and it's working quite well.  There's always people in my guild needing enchants, as equipment changes very often.

As for money making, that depends on other people.  Many enchants are simply not realistic to make money off of.  An example is Icy Chill.

Icy Chill:
4x Small Brilliant Shards (Price Varys, 5G each is common)  Blues from Mauradon Disenchant into Smalls
1x Essence of water (Going for about 10-15G)
1x Essence of Air (Pain in the Ass, 30-35G)
1x Icecap (Pretty Easy)

50-70G Total, Quite a tough sale.

Edit: I'm on Bleeding Hollows, and quite a few people are attempting Molten Core.  Fire Resist enchants are quite popular :P

The plans and the orbs needed for crusader both drop in the scarlet side of stratholme, as far as I know.  Our raid groups roll for the orbs, since we have 2 enchanters that can do it, and I've lost the roll each time.  you need two orbs for each enchant, and one or two drop per run.

My Brain Hacker would be so hot with the crusader enchant.

Re: Enchant Pricing
Reply Posted by chippewa on 2005-02-15 14:15:23
The price of enchants really depends on the going rate on your server.  Higher population servers charge lower prices.

I'm on a low population server and I charge 8 gold for demonslaying enchants and 10 gold for the +7/4 damage enchants, but when there were fewer people doing these enchants the going rate was 15 gold.

Basically just check the AH and see how much people are charging for the base components, total up what it would cost to buy them for whichever enchant you want to sell then add a small retail charge to turn a profit. You can also watch the trade channel for a while and see what people are charging and price yours competitively.

Of course, if you farm all of your own materials then you are going to make 100% profit no matter what. =)

There's a mod that will list the likely results of disenchants on an item... Enchantrix. It works in co-operation with the LootLink mod. The database only comes partially stocked and 'learns' as you find and disenchant stuff, so it  would be best to get it early on in your career as an enchanter.

I found it on the Curse Gaming site... do a search.

General rule is green->green and blue->blue.

Meaning, you get shards from blue items 100% of the time.

Green armor will yield dust most of the time, essence sometimes, and shards rarely.

Green weapons will yield essence most of the time, dust sometimes, and shards rarely.

Blue items (weapons or armor) will yield shards depending on it's level.

For example:

a Lvl 55 blue item will give you a Large Brilliant Shard, everytime.

A Lvl 47 green armor will likely give you between 1-5 dream dust, or you might get 1-2 Nether essence, or rarely will get a small brilliant shard.

etc. etc.

There are charts out there that detail the specifics.  I suggest printing them out and keeping them handy.  I forgot where I got mine from.
Insane prices for enchantment formulas in Auction House

What is going on lately with the prices for formulas in the Auction House, I mean every once in  a while you see a high asking price, but I've just seen some people asking 600 times the value of the formula (Minor Beastslaying for 11g) and there were at least 6 or 7 more at the same asking price for formulas you can sell to a vendor for 11 or 12s.  It's getting crazy, and all the non-enchanters wanna know why enchanting costs keep going up.
Reply Posted by Raeze on 2005-02-16 14:01:16
Because they think people will buy them.

and if people buy them, then they've proven that they were right.

If some tool wants to put minor beastslaying up for 11g, let him.  Just don't buy it.  After a few days of having it returned to him he'll get the point.

I've recently started with Enchanting.. My skill is somewhere around 60 but I've hit a wall when it comes to advancing by disenchanting (green) items. I'm 17th level and really don't have the opportunity to find/use/disenchant blues yet and would like to know how to advance the profession.

Is it worth using the raw material while enchanting items with mostly useless bonuses OR should I wait to advance my skill and continue to disenchant progressively high level items?  Any advice?

You won't get any more skill disenchanting.  You can only raise it from here by enchanting items.
