log file viewers with good syntax highlighting

Obviously there are enterprise-grade log file analyzers like Splunk, but those can take some work to setup. Are there less complex ones, preferably ones that are "turnkey" in that they require no per-use configuration?

Tools that are "universal" log file viewers, that can only parse a few formats, but will notice general text strings like dates, times, and words like "ERROR" or "WARNING":

  • there are actually TWO different pieces of software, similar in name and function, which is incredibly confusing:

    • the astute observer will note that one is named Generic Colouriser and the other Generic Colorizer
    • These are completely different pieces of software. Although they both perform the same task (indeed Albert's was inspired by Garabík's), use the same name, and are written in Python, their implementation details differ — for instance, Garabík's config files are read in using a custom parser, while Albert's config files are read in using a YAML library.
  • I prefer Radovan Garabík's version myself, and it's also the one that Debian has chosen for its package named 'grc'.
