Mission Statement / Purpose:

Create diagrams for teaching purposes and for deliberative discussions.
License all work under open source / open content licenses.

The goal is to produce relatively high-quality diagrams, on par with what is available on scout posters. [1]

Software automation is encouraged, where it will save time. However, current software-only solutions [2] generate relatively low quality diagrams from knot-notations, so it is expected that many diagrams will require hand-tweaking at various stages, in order to generate high-quality diagrams.

The type of diagrams may range widely, and be 2D or 3D. [3] However, the goal is to produce *computer graphics* diagrams of knots, not photographs. Photographs aren't amenable to the engineering method -- that is, iteratively making small improvements [4], possibly by many different people. Open content licenses ensure that the diagrams can be improved and then re-rendered.

It is hoped that at least part of the body of work will be concrete recommendations for using existing software to help create these diagrams, as well as creating new software specifically for this project.
