Basically, just two columns... neat/elegant colors and font...
A thin black link separating the two columns. (is it possible to put a little decorative bit on
top? not a big swirl or anything, more like a serif?)
Left column:
- right justified
- heading "Favorite sites"
- a listing of sites, numbered from 1 to x
- at the bottom an archive link that goes to favorite_sites_archive.html
Right column:
- (optional) headings "topic", "link", and "discussion"
- left is a linked (BUT NON-UNDERLINED, NON-COLORED) simple name... eg. "science",
"programming", "arts", "chronicle", etc... it's linked to a full archive of that
topic-specific list
- middle, of course, is the main link and description
- right is links to any ongoing discussion about the link (eg. if I got it off of reddit, digg,
slashdot, or stumble, then link to those discussions, and have the icon of those sites be
what's linked)
- I DO want an even mix of link-topics... however, since some topics go by faster than
others... I'll have a set quota for each topic (eg. 10, or 15)... once a topic has enough
links listed for it... keep going back in history for other topics, but no longer show any
links on the front page for that specific topic (so the topics that go by the slowest will
have a bunch clustered up at the end)
At the bottom:
- "revisit"... a listing of just the links I'd like to revisit
- "extraneous links", be a link to my "non-public" links... (not literally private, but things
I consider not important enough to firmly promote to other people)
Other people's homepages I really like:
