types of coated paper
Typically used in a kitchen / in food service:
- waxed paper
- intended purpose(s) — anything that needs a non-stick layer during cooking
- materials — paper impregnated with wax
- parchment paper
- intended purpose(s) — used in baking, or anywhere that wax paper might be used but a higher temperature tolerance is needed
- materials — paper coated with silicone
- freezer paper
- materials — paper coated on one side with polyethylene
- butcher paper
Typically used outside the kitchen:
- kraft paper
- intended purposes — paper grocery bags,
- materials — just paper, though it's manufactured to be more rugged and durable
- glassine paper
- material — supercalendered paper
- intended purposes — used by artists, bookbinders, and for food service
Typically used in industry:
- release liner
- barrier papers [2]
- very similar to freezer paper (coated on one side with plastic), but designed for use in food packaging
- there are many variations of this, as it's usually a B2B transaction with customized products
