I really like drop bars on a mountain bike, because I like to do touring on a MTB. However, dealing with road brake levers on a MTB can be a pain. [1] [2] [3]

An alternate solution is to use touring handlebars designed for a MTB. These have more hand positions available, but still let you use mountain bike brake levers.

Another solution is to use drop bars, but get hood-brake-levers that are designed for linear-pull brakes:
