ways to publish GIS data to web-based interactive viewers

• Google Earth is an option, but beware that the web-based Google Earth is extremely limited in what it can display to others (.kml files can't be shared, only "projects" can be shared, and never the twain shall meet; this is very unintuitive)
• OpenStreetMap's Guide to deploying your own "slippy" maps suggests using Javascript to interact with one of these:

• QGISCloud.com can host QGIS data, and its free tier allows storing up to 50 MB of data
