- Available in 24-DIP and 40-DIP sizes, easily solderable.
- Available in 24-SOIC, 28-PLCC, 44-PLCC, 68-PLCC, and 84-PLCC packages, which can be soldered by hand.
- I'm seeing some for as low as $2.80 on Digikey in single-quanities. In addition, they don't require the external EEPROM, so they're even cheaper.
