There are several places that are selling PIC microcontrollers with bootloaders pre-loaded. This makes it much easier for newbies to pick up some of my code because they need much less hardware to program and then have my code communicate with the computer.
Also, once I get a programmer set up, it'd be nearly trivial for me to ship these things as well, I just have to order a chip, program it once, and ship it off.
