Memetics implies that we can study the formation of the Abrahamic religions out of the prior religions of its day, in the same way that we study how a hoofed land animal evolved into dolphins. Moreover, we can postulate why they evolved in the manner they did, i.e. what selective pressures pushed them in that direction.

This is particularly interesting because almost all former religions in the area were polytheistic, Judaism was one of the earliest monotheistic religions. One of the most interesting suggestions is that earlier books of the Bible seem to be less monotheistic, with only the later books asserting monotheism more forcefully, suggesting the Bible itself may have captured evidence of the shift from polytheism to monotheism. (but even if that turns out to be incorrect, the fact that the shift to monotheism happened immediately before the biblical account is almost as interesting)

Also, the recent emphasis of biblical minimalism over maximalism among biblical archaeologists is very refreshing.
