Femme invisibility is a real problem in the lesbian community. Women who are femme-presenting are presumed to be straight. Even when they're in a lesbian bar, wearing rainbow jewelry, they're still presumed to be straight. The assumption that androgynous hair = dyke is so ingrained that many folks are forced to present in a stereotypical lesbian way in order to gain any recognition at all.
