"Transgender" is an umbrella word, it covers a LOT of different people. In the "LGBT" initialism, sexual orientation gets three different letters to distinguish between different subgroups, while gender identity only gets one.
As a result, there are a wide variety of people who can fall under the label:
- full-time transgender people — those who work and do everything else in their life as their desired gender
- cross-dressers — those who live only part-time as gender-variant or fully opposite of their birth gender (often presenting as cisgender during work hours) [1]
- "tranny chasers" — while there isn't complete agreement, many believe tranny chasers are TG wannabes
