This describes how to suspend CRT monitors from a wall or the ceiling.
Motivation
Prerequisites
Before embarking on this project, you should make sure you're knowledgable about these things:
"Suspending loads directly above human bodies" is one of the big red lines mentioned in many safety texts, so you really need to be fairly confident in your understanding of safety issues.
Note, however, that mountain climbers DO use their gear to suspend things that are critical to human safety (namely humans). In many cases, the items have a design factor of 20x (eg.
[1]
). However, for mountain climbing, gear is expected to remain intact during a fall, so the live load rating is quite significant.
Procedure
Testing
- do "proof testing" — apply at LEAST double the working load to the monitor, see if it fails
- visually inspect the rope and end fittings, make sure no damage has occured
