Installing on the hard drive
- start via Menu>System>BackTrack installer
- specify "changes=<partition>" when booting, to get BackTrack to store filesystem changes
BackTrack is based on Slackware. Yes, you can install Slackware packages in BackTrack. [slapt-get, installpkg]

Packages I like to install include:

Synergy. Not available in a Slackware package, but you can convert the official release .rpm.
