Some of this stuff is [way] more expensive than I'm willing to spend on a rarely-used item, but it's interesting nonetheless:
- reserve battery — non-rechargeable batteries with a much longer shelf life
- thermoelectric generator — generate electricity from your camp fire

[2]
(reviews say they produce very little power)
- Sterling generator — more efficient way to generate electricity from heat

[2] (even that most expensive one only generates 200watts, so thermoelectric generators are unlikely to produce much)
More affordable (less cool) stuff that I'm considering:
- Zippos are liked by some survivalist/outdoor folks
