I don't see these curved I-beams very often. What are the benefits and downsides to using these?
Are they stronger than a diagonal brace would be?
Also, were they historically more prevalent than they are now? In most of the places I see them
used, they're on a riveted structure.

Photos I still need to take:
- more of the curved I-beams at UIC-Halsted, taken from a side-angle, to make the I-beam flanges more clear
- some of the cast stairway posts with decorative elements, at.. the Blue Line Damen stop?
(there may be some at the California stop too?)
