Information that's useful to be aware of:
Windows
- configuration is stored in several different places
- c:\windows\synergy.sgc (has the same format as unix's synergy.conf)
- %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\synergy.sgc (mirror of c:\windows\synergy.sgc)
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synergy\Synergy\
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Synergy Server\
- There are two ways to make sure you don't "corrupt" the configuration file.
- One is to make sure the tray-app is never running when you start the second instance.
- The other is to meticulously follow these steps:
- leave the tray-app running
- start up a second instance of the program. NEVER EVER press "start" on this one!
- change the configuration
- PRESS "QUIT", NOT "START"
- once it's closed, go to the tray-app instance, and click "Reload configuration"
- if you make backups of the configuration file, you MUST RESTORE it to both places!
