HOWTO -- working with .vdi files
- Clone a .vdi disk image, so it can be used on a second VM
vboxmanage clonevdi
- resize a dynamically-expanding .vdi
vboxmanage modifyhd --resize
That merely changes the size of the drive itself. You still have to go in and resize the partition (eg. with a tool like gparted)
- resize a fixed-size .vdi
create a new .vdi and do drive-imaging (eg. Clonezilla) to copy the data to the new drive
