Cracking wifi is useful for the following reasons:

(attacking access points) free internet!
(attacking wireless clients) Evil twin access points allow someone to do MITM attacks on many people at once
(attacking wired clients) ARP poisoning and DNS spoofing let you sniff/modify traffic from them too [1] [2]
