Current system
- A low-cost start. Whatever CPU I have on hand.
- Power, weight not so big a concern. Flexibility is, since I don't have a firm idea of hardware requirements.
- A platform for exploring applications, microcontroller interfacing, and to gauge interest.
- MPEG encoding of a single camera, if possible.
Future systems
- Highest CPU power available then
- If going for a low-weight car, then as low-weight and low-power as practical.
- Highest data-rate wireless-network available
- More navigation inputs (GPS, compass, accelerometer, optical mouse)
- Processing and encoding of multiple video streams.
- Explore DSP programming
- Camera / radio antenna aiming
- Higher reliability / uptime (start taking over semi-critical functionality)
