One of the reasons that Medieval Perl persists is that there are a lot of Perl books out there that suggest writing Perl the medieval way. New users don't realize that there's such a big difference between Medieval Perl and Modern Perl, and think that just because a book has "O'Reilly" on the cover, that means the book is authoritative and good. Not so.
