PlRPC has been a dependency of the DBI package (via DBI::ProxyServer) for a LOONG time. As such, it's mature and widely available.
it's not asynchronous, however... RPC::PlServer::Comm::Write() and RPC::PlServer::Comm::Read() very clearly make blocking calls.
