Here I only include lighters that burn naphtha or kerosene.
Most people use the official Zippo fuel or Ronsonol lighter fluid. These are basically just naphtha. But naphtha is a whole class of hydrocarbon fuels, and there are quite a few alternatives that will work just fine in your Zippo:
list by Nicky Hoseck at Primal Survivor:
Ronson lighter fuel
perfume or aftershave
acetone-based nail polish remover (produces a larger flame!)
gasoline (produces a larger flame!)
Coleman white gas
list from a Zippo retailer:
liquid paraffin, AKA kerosene (however, there are many reports that it won't ignite by itself, since kerosne has a very high ignition temperature than some of these other fuels
high purity rubbing alcohol charcoal lighter fluid
While many people online has suggested this is a bad idea,
some people report that it works just fine.
list from Curran Copeland at Quora:
zippo, followed by white gas, then jet fuel, and then unleaded gas
