Sex verification via physical inspection, by the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) in 1966 and 1967

There are some reports that female athletes at IOC (International Olympic Committee) events in the 1960s were required to do a "nude parade" in front of medical experts to try to verify that they were neither intersex nor male. This page lists all available evidence for these events in 1966 and 1967.

(Note that there's no black-and-white distinction between female and intersex, and there has never been universal agreement about formal boundaries. There have been regular discussions about intersex athletes in elite sports since the 1930s. [1] [2] [3]. In my opinion, the lines seem to continue to shift, and the various approaches / underlying framing of the issue continues to shift too.)
