Palos Forest + Sag Valley wetlands

• Cranberry Slough Nature Preserve — several different ecoregions here, the closest parking is Belly Deep Slough
  • the Forest Preserve webpage says there's peat bog here, a relic of the glacial era

• Buttonbush Slough — several different ecoregions here, accessible via:
  • potentially accessing it via car on either W 95th St and/or LaGrange Rd
  • the closest official trailhead is Country Lane Woods, which is maybe a 0.5 mi walk down the trail
• Saganashkee Slough — one of the larger bodies of open water in the area

  • On its north-east corner, there's some forested wetland, as well as emergent wetland. I don't see a trail nearby though, so if you really wanted to access it, you might have to go off-trail here.
• Mallard Pond — freshwater pond, surrounded entirely by an emergent wetland Can be accessed via a trail, starting by parking near the Little Red Schoolhouse Nature Center
