Timeline

• 14 October 2010 — A notice of water service termination is posted on the front of the building, which (by law) means that the landlord was supposed to have received a notification of water termination 10 days before, or by 4 October.
  • 15 October 2010 — landlord texts and says he will pay the water bill
  • 22 October 2010 — the water company confirms that the payment posted today
• 11 October 2010 — The landlord stops by and asks each tenant to sign a new lease, with the reason given that he's refinancing the mortgage and the bank needs a new lease to be signed. He doesn't leave a copy of the new lease with me.
• approx 1 September 2010 — The stairwell lights go out. I eventually learn that the utility company turned off the power to the common areas of the building due to unpaid bills by the landlord. The landlord later explains that this is a dispute between him and the power company over an errant charge of $800 that he says isn't his.
  • 23 October 2010 — landlord texts and says he will pay the electricity bill
