- hot sauce: If vinegar is mentioned on the label, don't buy it unless it's mentioned rather far down the ingredients list (if it's listed first, it's a sign it's pretty wussy; also, vinegar corrupts the taste IMHO)
- a quick easy way to add heat (and some texture) to any cooked food is to buy a jar of diced jalapenos, and mix them in with everything. I've seen mustard/relish combinations that used jalepenos instead of pickles, and diced jalepenos go with all kinds of meat, eggs, etc.
