Bekki is moving out. I can do infrastructure upgrades now that I know what my living situation will be.
what kind of enclosure?
There are two broad ways to go:
The benefit of the first is simplicity (it's a turnkey solution). The benefit of the latter is flexibility (I can easily add several 2.4ghz and 5ghz radios).
what kind of roof↔apartment link?
- wired cat5
- wireless (probably 802.11n to get the MIMO)
The benefit of the wireless is that I could service my neighbors too, and I don't have to worry about running cables everywhere. (my neighbor likes it when I service her)
While it's possible to do a turnkey solution with the wireless link (POE is no panacea), it seems most likely that wireless would require the "bunch of disrobed computers inside a commercial enclosure" solution.
