A parabolic antenna that's made of a metal grid, which cuts down on weight, and reduces wind resistance.

TODO: note which of the above comes with a decent mounting bracket, since that can add a lot to the cost

if I go for an external antenna, is it worth doing the thing where you put the wifi transceiver in a weatherproofed box, and use cat5 for the long run? That sounds nice, but it requires buying additional hardware: POE equipment (one for each end), standalone wifi equipment that runs off POE, and a weatherproofed box
