- sump benefits:
- adds more water volume (eg. a $3 plastic tub adds 20 gallons each, at least?)
- more secure: easier to "seal" lid, and reduces the number of input/output holes... VERY important for octopuses
- allows larger/uglier equipment to be hidden away (though most sumps I've seen look dirty as
HELL, so it makes the aesthetics lower, if anyone looks down there)
- refugium — allows the octopus to swim alone, but have some biologically supporting
creatures (eg. plants) in a separate tank
- it reduces the tank's footprint, since you're doubling the height of the water, and thus can
reduce the depth/width (though reducing the amount of free space the octopus has to
swim around)
