With IP networks, and with cellular telecom, it seems like there's a certain "direction" within networks — that is, it's somewhat possible to say that a given packet is flowing "towards the center", or "towards the leaves".
Note: I'm COMPLETELY MAKING THIS UP. I have no idea if anyone else uses this terminology. Further, I'm just learning this stuff myself, I could be completely wrong about this being useful.
This seems analogous to veterinary terminology.
Possibilities include:
- peripheral (towards the perhiphery) and medial (towards the midline)
