the "tech tree" progression, when starting with hand tools, having nothing else

It can be hard to build things when you have no shooting board, and no workbench or other work-holding devices, just some hand tools shipped from Amazon. Where do you even start??

  1. build two Japanese saw horses
  2. build a combination of 1) a Japanese saw bench hook and 2) a bench hook tailored for planing faces, both designed to work atop my tool chest
  3. build this shooting board
  4. build some way to hold boards so they can be planed on their edges; some options:
  5. build two winding sticks
  6. practice exercises — learn to properly dimension lumber — take your time, don't expect perfection, and get some reps in
  7. build a perpendicular hole-drilling jig
