- within 15 miles of Gurnee
- Mike's - nice place, a bit small, a bit expensive, but a nice friendly couple, and stocks decent parts that are useful to have in a pinch.
- Libertyville Cyclery - VERY nice machanics. If they wouldn't have left my bike half-fucked-up after the $40, I think this would be one and only place.
- Bass Pro @ Gurnee Mills — decent bikes from $200-300. Had off-brand (but still pretty good) bikes last year, have Diamondbacks this year. Caters to low/mid-range, and most employees don't know what they're talking about, but they try hard to be helpful anyway, and it's a decent local low-price place to get service done.
- near Schaumburg
- Village Cyclesport — Bikes: tons of Gary Fisher, lots of Santa Cruz, some Trek... good stuff ranging from $350-$1500. Lots of tri bikes. Parts: Stock shoes.
- REI — Bikes: small selection, not name-brand, expensive for the quality. Parts: seem to have a wider selection.
- Turin, Evanston — Bikes: Big selection, especially of high-end road bikes. Stock Cervelo. Have a fancy-schmancy computerized "fitting bike". Had the new Trek single-speed mountainbike in stock. Parts: Not sure.
- Alberto's Cycles, Highland Park — haven't visited there yet, but it looks like a high-end place, especially for Konrad's road bike stuff (said to sell Shimano footwear, and do custom fitting)
- Higher Gear, Highland Park — haven't visited there yet, but looks good for Konrad's road bike stuff (said to sell Shimano footwear, and do custom fitting)
