At times, I've commuted between Gurnee and Golf Rd on this trail. Tips I need, going from south to north:

NB: East on Drummer Dr. Best to hook left across the parking lot to its north side; otherwise, left on Thoreau Dr. Right onto the frontage road. There are three frontage roads (Skywater Dr, Arbor Dr, Crossroads of Commerce) to take, use the sidewalk to go between them. Left at first intersection after 94, onto Magnolia Dr. Left at Brookmeade Dr. Right at Central Rd. Take Central Rd for 7 miles. Somewhat after the cemetary, just after "Oakton Community Col-Des Plaines", take a left onto the trail.
SB: At Central Rd (the one after Lake/Euclid Ave, and just after Beck Lake), right onto Central Rd. Take Central for 7 miles. At its very end, once it runs into 94, left onto Frontage Rd. Right at Magnolia Dr, cross Algonquin, and right onto the frontage road on the other side. Follow the next three frontage roads (Crossroads of Commerce, Arbor Dr, Skywater Dr) and the sidewalks in between them. At the end of Skywater Dr, jog right into the parking lot. South through the parking lot, right on Drummer Dr.

NB: (follow SB directions in reverse)
SB: At Rand Road (Route 12 across from the Wheels, Inc. building), go right and cross Rand, then go left at the first street (Garland), ride one block and turn right on Miner/DempsterNorthwest Highway/14, go to the first street on the left (Schwab Rd.) which takes you under the tracks, past Northwestern Forest Preserve and the Des Plaines Methodist Campground, and across Algonquin Road where the trail resumes.

Cross the railroad, the trail should resume on the other side.

NB: Turn right, cross 21. Go 0.2mi down Winkleman, past the two hotels. The trail resumes to the left.
SB: Turn right, go to the end of Winkleman, cross 21, continue into the Alison Woods parking area, and the trail resumes to the left.

NB: Continue straight(west) onto Estonian Ln. Right on 45/Milwaukee (may want to walk the bike here, this road isn't fun). Right at unmarked asphalt path across from Aptakisic Rd. Left to go in between the two fences back there, onto the new but unfinished trail. Right at the T (Riverside Rd), left at the dead end.
SB: Right onto Riverside Rd. Left after 0.1mi onto the new trail that's between two fences. Right onto asphalt path. Left on 45/Milwaukee (may want to walk the bike here, this road isn't fun). Left on Estonian Ln. Continue straight onto path.
