Lots of great tips for winter riding/maintenance:

- specific routine things I may need to take up:
- lube chain once a week (to reduce the effect of salt)
- wash the bike regularly (to get salt off)
- wipe off rims more regularly
- specific one-time things I may need to consider:
- get fenders (if that actually turns out to seem to be useful)
- consider getting a beater bike... especially an older one with fenders and fewer parts
