I think it's interesting to watch the Talk: pages of these articles. These articles are biographies of people where it's somewhat ambiguous if they're trans or not.
If it was clear, the NYTimes/AP style guides would apply. But it isn't clear, either because they're non-binary, or because they wavered a lot in life:
