raison d'ĂȘtre
The fundamental goal is: Create more and better knot diagrams, for educational purposes.
structure
This project approaches that goal with a focus on open content. That is:
- the final (rendered) work-products should be provided under a permissive license
- the original work-products should be similarly available (original .svg, .blend, etc files)
- the project encourages collaboration and crowd-sourcing to create these work-products
- the project always allows the right to fork, to ensure that the project remains responsive to all users/viewers of the work
general goals
- Provide 3D and 2D knot diagrams
- Provide diagrams that can be customized.
- [HOW] Focus on work products that have repeatability, where the final build-products can be automatically built from the original work-product. That is, we focus on rendered diagrams rather than photographic diagrams.
- [WHY] Knots are made in various types of material, from thick rope to fishing line, to flat webbing, and sometimes even wire rope and chain. It should be possible to depict the same knot using different material (particularly different thicknesses).
- [WHY] House style guides vary greatly between publications.
- [WHY] It should be possible for a publication to have a more consistent style throughout the publication. If a given publication integrates diagrams from multiple sources, it should be possible to re-style them to be more similar visually.
- [WHY] IMHO, house styles leave a lot of room for improvement. By giving intermediate authors flexibility, we encourage people to experiment with different ways to improve style guide rules.
